Commissions from An Post

An Post commissioned Ann Flynn to design and illustrate a number of postage stamps, among these were a set of postage stamps to commemorate Ireland’s involvement in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

"The International Olympic Committee, in collaboration with its Philatelic working group (FIPO) has organised the 2nd ‘Prix Olympia’.

The aim of this competition was to decern the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the three most beautiful stamps issued on the occasion of the Olympic Games 1998 in Calgary and Seoul.

Amongst the stamps issued, 12 were selected for final judging.

904 personalities worldwide were asked to give their judgement. 519 votes were cast.

An international jury presided by Eng. L. Dvoracek, President of The federation Internationale De Philatelie, and three other jury members, including H.E. Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the IOC, attended votes at a final meeting which took place at the IOC Headquarters on 19th June 1989.

We have the pleasure and the honour to advise that the Olympic stamp, issued by your ministry, depicting the Equestrian Jumping Competition has been awarded the Gold Medal.

The awarding ceremony will take place in San Juan, (Puerto-Rico) during the 95th IOC session, at the Hotel Caribe International on the 27th August 1989.

We would be honoured if you could take part in the ceremony or be represented by one official of your choice.

Please advise the IOC in Lausanne, at your earliest convenience.

Yours very sincerely
